Student Services Manager
Part-Time: 24 Hours a week
MAJOR PURPOSE: Provision of student support services.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Student Life
- Identifying student mentors, student life coordinators and facilitating their role in development of student life and community; providing resources to them
- Coordination of international student life and orientation with the Student
Support Committee
- Immunization and Health Insurance
- Coordinate the Student Support Committee
- Develop and Maintain system for providing Mental Health services as needed
- Student issues/concerns/problem-solving: advising, facilitation and follow-up
- Prepare The Exchange on a bi-weekly basis
- Student Handbook preparation and distribution
Student Housing
- Working with the Student Housing and Related Issues Committee, takes responsibility for Campus Student Housing (duties include handing out keys, facilitating arrival, communicating with students prior to arrival, assigning rooms, collecting room deposits and housing applications and facilitates resolution of complaints and questions)
- Supervises the Resident Assistant
Academic Support
- Leaflet preparation (e.g. International Student Arrival Packet and the Transition Year in Exeter) In addition, development of workshops for students on topics such as ‘career options’, pastoral counseling, CPE, Writing and Research, etc…)
- Coordination of academic writing support and supervises the writing consultants
- Liaison to the English Language Institute at the University of Hartford Seminary
- Assist Student with disabilities in obtaining needed accommodations in accordance with Seminary policy
Events/Activites
- Coordination of Convocation ceremony with designated person in charge
- Coordination of new student orientation
- Assist with Graduation
- Creation and implementation of Student Activities Calendar of Events including bi-yearly trips and social activities
- Summer Session Coordination
Admissions
- Serve as the back up for the Admissions Manager when in the office
- Do informational interviews with individuals who drop in for information
Committees
- Student Support Committee
- Graduation Committee
- Student Housing and Related Issues Committee
Other Duties as assigned
As is expected of all employees, provide backup support for Seminary’s major events/general activities, as needed.
TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor’s degree (in theology, social work, psychology, management or education preferred); strong organizational, interpersonal and computer skills; ability to handle details under pressure; supervisory experience; and able to work a flexible schedule. Work experience in an educational setting with students preferred.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Manual dexterity for computer use; verbal clarity to interact with students/faculty, etc. by phone and to speak to them in person. Ability to drive a 15 passenger van.
