Centers and Institutes

Hartford Seminary comprises three centers of inquiry, research, and education.  These centers work individually and cooperatively to explore the implications of faith in a modern world.  The research and learnings of these Centers informs and enriches the classroom experience at Hartford Seminary.

Our Center for Faith in Practice, is dedicated to how a faithful life may be embodied in everyday practice, both within congregational worship and outside of the four walls of the organization.  This is the home of our specialists in Bible, Theology, Ethics, and Spirituality.

Our Duncan Black Macdonald Center is the home of our faculty committed to Islamic Studies and Christian-Muslim Relations.  With two Muslims on the Faculty, we are committed to listening to and understanding Islam as seen by Muslims.  We are especially committed to the dialogue between the Muslim World and the West.  At this moment in history, this is a conversation of vital importance.

Our Hartford Institute for Religion Research is the home of our internationally renowned specialists in congregational studies and sociology of religion.  The Institute faculty explore religious life in all its organizational forms from congregations to para-church groups to denominations and international religious groups.
